SICK - Ibeo "Team LUX" advances to the next round of competition for the Urban Challenge

Team LUX was created by Ibeo, a member of the SICK Group.

Laser Measurement System (LMS) Sensors from SICK have been on the majority of autonomous vehicles for the previous two DARPA Challenge races. This year Ibeo, a member of the SICK Group, formed its own team. Team LUX was selected as one of 36 teams to proceed to the National Qualification Event in October. Two-thirds of this year's teams are using SICK LMS sensors. Twenty qualifying teams will then be selected to compete in the Urban Challenge, November 3, in Victorville, CA. The winner will receive $2 million.

The DARPA Urban Challenge is an autonomous vehicle research and development program with the goal of developing technology that will keep soldiers off the battlefield and out of harm’s way. The Urban Challenge features autonomous ground vehicles maneuvering in a mock city environment, executing simulated military supply missions while merging into moving traffic, negotiating intersections, and avoiding obstacles.
