While some applications require safeguarding only at the point-of-operation or around the perimeter of a hazardous workspace, often an application calls for a solution that can safeguard all points within the perimeter. SICK Safety Systems can easily safeguard these irregularly shaped areas.
The safety industry has designed new products for area safeguarding. SICK’s line of laser scanners provides flexible configuration. With the S300 and S3000 Laser Scanners, the user is able to define multiple safeguarding zones of any shape, as well as safety level. The laser scanner can also be placed out of the way of work being done. The scanner can be positioned so that it will not be damaged or exposed to harm from corrosive substances, dropped parts and machinery. Common elements of industrial environments are not a danger to your device. With other forms of area safeguarding, replacement costs could be incurred quickly and repetitively. Applications Interior press monitoring is one example of an application that can require area safeguarding in addition to perimeter or point-of-operation safeguarding. A perimeter safeguard only monitors when the actual perimeter is broken; an area guard can detect not only a break in the perimeter, but whether workers or objects have withdrawn from the perimeter or remain within the hazardous area after breaking the perimeter. Even when the S300 or S3000 recognizes that a worker or an object has withdrawn from the area (i.e., the safety zone has been cleared), automatic restart is not safely possible. SICK laser scanners are also ideal for machine tool tube bending applications. In this case, the bending machine requires ample space to bend and turn the metal. With a SICK area scanner positioned at the front of the bending machine, the scanner will not interfere or create obstacles on the side of the machine. And most importantly, there are no complicated sequences to program - unlike using a light curtain. The laser scanner provides unparalleled flexibility and ease of use. Other Applications include:
